Sunday Funday Makeup of the Day

Sunday is probably one of my favorite days. It always seems so peaceful and relaxing to me. Most of my Sundays consist of beach filled afternoons and fun with friends later in the evening. Although I sometimes will go to dinner, usually we all just hang out around the house. So my makeup stays pretty laid back.

After prepping my skin with my normal skin routine, I go ahead and apply some eye shadow primer. My current favorite is Urban Decay’s Eye Primer Potion. I’ll then go in and put on a bit of eye shadow. I kept it pretty simple today, just using a few products. I started with putting the NYX jumbo eye pencil in milk on my lid, then I put ELF’s Essential Blush in Innocence all over my lid and crease. I defined my outer corner a bit more with a mixture of two shadows from Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Palette – Blackout and Pistol.

After I applied my eye shadow I went in with Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind just to clean up the edges and brighten my under eye. I set that with Rimmel’s Stay Matte Pressed Powder, and followed up by applying Covergirl’s Professional Loose Powder to the rest of my face.

Next I went ahead and tight lined my eyes using a black eyeliner from Physician’s Formula. Following this, I used ELF’s Liquid Eyeliner in black and just did a simple line. No wings or anything fancy. I then curled my lashes and went in with some mascara.

To polish up the look I just used some light bronzer around my face, down my neck and below my cheekbones, as well as a hint of highlighter. After I swiped on my favorite lip gloss from Tarte, I was ready to go.

July Favorites

With July having already come to a close and August rolling in, I thought it was about time I wrote a favorites post. Both June and July have been months where I have tried not to buy much. Part of this is due to the fact that I have really been trying to save for college. The other side of the story is the fact that I now live 45 minutes from ULTA… And as painful as that is, it has been an effective way of keeping my shopping habits at a minimum.

While I always love trying out new products, these past two months have definitely made me test out items that I already owned but never really messed with. As a result, I’ve come up with a few favorites that I didn’t remember I had!

L’Oreal’s Miss Manga Black Angel Mascara Ok, I’m going to be honest here, I totally remembered I had this product. I’ve been using it pretty much every day since I got it. For real, best mascara I’ve ever tried. It’s black as black can be, adds tons of volume and decently separates out each lash. I love it.

ELF Contour and Blush Pallet in St. Lucia So this is a product that I bought quite a while ago and originally didn’t like. I can’t really remember why – I think I just didn’t like it on my paler skin tone. But now that summer has come and I’m far more tan than in the winter months, I love it. The contour color works perfectly as a light contour/bronzer. The blush? It’s quite nice as well, a cute coral color. Now, if you’re someone who is into really heavy contours, I don’t think this product would quite hold up to your standards. But for a general light bronze, it’s excellent. Also, it’s only $3, so that’s pretty great as well.

Urban Decay’s Potion Primer This is a trend I actually never thought I would get into. I’ve always used drugstore primers, particularly ELF’s Essential Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer, and never really had a problem with them. I still don’t. But when I bought the Naked 2 Palette, it came with a sample package of the Urban Decay primer. I finally picked it up and gave it a try a couple weeks ago and was completely surprised by how amazing it is. It takes such a small amount to cover your eye, the $20 you spend on it definitely goes a long way. The claim of long lasting eyeshadow is nothing but true – this stuff is like glue. I’m just about done with the sample, so I’m definitely going to be making a trip to ULTA to pick up a bottle. If you haven’t tried this product yet, I would definitely recommend it.

Covergirl’s Professional Loose Power I’ve always loved powders. They’re my go to for everything from a no makeup kind of day to a night out on the town. If I wear foundation or BB cream, I never leave the house without setting it with a good powder. Even if I don’t, powder foundation is my must-have… especially for the hot summer months. This loose powder by covergirl has definitely been my everyday essential lately. It gives just the right amount of coverage without being too heavy. If you are looking for a light, long-lasting powder, I definitely recommend this one.

ELF Essential Blush in Innocence I’ve always had overly red cheeks. Not bright red, but just enough color to really limit the amount of blush I can use. That beautiful peachy color that looks so great on everyone else rarely looks good on me, it just brings out the red in my skin. So I’m always looking for a blush that compliments my flushed feature, instead of making me look like a clown. ELF’s blush in innocence does just that. It’s a gorgeous mauve color that looks great on my cheeks. It gives just a hint of added color without giving me that sunburn look. A bonus is that it looks great as an eye shadow as well.

So those are my top five for this month. Has anyone tried them? Any recommendations for other can’t-live-without products? Let me know in the comments down below!

Lush Tea Tree Toner Water

Good morning lovlies! Lately I’ve been trying out Lush’s Tea Tree Toner Water. I live about two hours from the nearest Lush store and I’m not a big fan of the $5 shipping fee, so I don’t get my hands on lush products too often. But my friend from Chicago just came for a visit, and he has a store 10 minutes from his house. So I may or may not have sent him with a list of products to bring me :)

I’ve been using Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion for Combination Skin for a while, and I love it. But sometimes I feel that it can be a bit too harsh on my skin, especially in the winter. So I decided to try something that is advertised as more gentle and natural.

Lush’s tea tree toner claims be beneficial for anyone with oily skin/to keep disasters at bay, without its alcohol-free formula drying out the skin. It contains only 4 elements – tea tree water, grapefruit water, juniperberry water, and limonene (occurs naturally in essential oils). Seems pretty natural right?

So I put it to the test and used it every morning and every evening for two weeks. I sprayed it a couple times on my face then wiped it away with a cotton ball. Pretty simple, and surprisingly very effective. It fit in perfectly with my skin routine, and I could feel a noticeable difference in the freshness of my face after I used it. My skin was less oily throughout the day, and I never felt the dryness I got from Clinique’s product.

So overall, this product was definitely a win. I only got the 3.5oz bottle because my friend had to bring it on his flight. But after consistently using it for 2 weeks it still feels very full, definitely not something that I’ll go through super quickly. If you’re looking for a light, but effective toner, I definitely recommend trying this one out!

Happy Wednesday! XXX

Top 3 Beauty and Fashion Youtubers

Hello hello! I don’t know about you guys, but I absolutely love watching beauty/fashion vloggers on youtube. I swear I could watch them all day long and not get bored. They’re actually what got me interested in blogging in the first place. As I’ve been writing my own posts, my interest in watching these girls’ youtube channels has only grown.

It honestly amazes me how successful each one of them is. They’re so so so talented at filming and editing their videos. And their instagram accounts? Don’t even get me started on how amazing they are. They basically embody all of my photography goals in one place. So, to give them some credit for all of the incredible work they do, I thought I would share with you all my top 3 favorite… even though it was super hard to narrow down all of the channels.

#3 on my list is Alex Centomo. I’ve been watching her for over a year now and oh my god her fashion sense is amazing. She’s basically a boho goddess. Also, she is really into being fit and healthy, which is awesome because I get so many good ideas for food and workout routines from her. You should definitely go check her out!

My second choice is Tess Christine. I’ve been watching her since I first got a youtube account, and I’ve loved every second. She has such a gracious and caring vibe to her videos. I honestly feel like she is talking directly to me and not to a camera. If you’re into fashion, her channel is definitely the place for you. She posts some amazing celebrity get-the-look videos. In fact, she just got a huge shout out from Shay Mitchell for recreating some of her outfits.

Taking first on my list is Caitlin Bea. Now, I haven’t been subscribed to her for as long as I have with Alex Centomo and Tess Christine. But, I have been obsessed with her videos lately. She’s so gorgeous and posts some of the best content. Her makeup tutorials are always on point, and I can’t even begin to tell you about her clothing style. She also films some great advice videos that have really helped me transition from high school to college life. On a completely unrelated note, her boyfriend is freaking adorable.

So there are my top 3 youtubers. If you haven’t checked them out, you definitely should. I promise you won’t regret it :)

Best Birthday Present of the Bunch

July 23 marked my 18th birthday. And just like the kid I still am, I got super excited for presents. Like seriously, I was psyched.

I got a few gifts that really meant a lot to me, so I can’t say that one particular one took the cake. But there is one that topped my *unsentimental value* list: an Ipsy subscription. I woke up to an email from Ipsy and it literally made my day. I got to go online and make my profile, then make googly eyes at all of the products given out in past months’ bags. It was quite fun.

So now I’m excitedly awaiting my August bag’s arrival, and just dying to see what’s inside. I can’t wait to get my hands on five new products!

Have you all ever gotten an Ipsy bag? Did you love it? If you’re interested in trying it, you can subscribe through my link right here. Happy Friday!

Top 3 Drug Store Mascaras

For me, the only thing better than a good eyeliner is a fantastic mascara. Luckily, there are more than enough to go around. If I had my choice, I would probably buy Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara every time. But experimenting is great, as is mascara retailed for less than $23. So today I thought I’d share my top 3 drugstore mascaras.

Taking third place at #3, is ULTA’s Amped Lashes. I got this product in a glam bag the store gave me for spending $20. I will admit I wasn’t completely sold at first; but the more I use it, the more I like it. The brush isn’t a crazy shape like most of the popular mascaras today. However, it does do a really good job of coating every single lash… I never get clumping. This product could offer a bit more in the area of volume, but all in all, I think it’s a pretty good find.

Sliding into second place… Covergirl’s Full Lash Bloom Mascara. First of all, can we just take a minute to appreciate how amazing Katy Perry looks in the commercial for this? Yes? Ok, good. Now that we’ve done that… I’ve actually been really impressed with this mascara. I’ve always liked Covergirl but this product really blew me away. It does a decent job of separating all of the lashes and adds tons of volume. You might see a bit of clumping with this product, but nothing unmanageable. It’s definitely something to try. Annnnnnd.

Stealing first, at just $8, is L’Oréal’s Miss Manga Black Angel Mascara. This stuff is amazing. It comes out super black and does an excellent job. I was a little bit weirded out by the brush at first.. I kind of thought it held on to too much product, but as long as you use a light hand, it’s totally fine. Your lashes will look amazing after you use this stuff, try it. Bonus points if you combine it with ULTA’s Amped Lashes.. that’s what I do. So that about wraps it up for my favorite mascaras. Are there any good ones I need to try? Does anyone have a favorite waterproof mascara? I still haven’t found one I really like, so let me know if you do! Enjoy the mascara ladies xxx

Tinted Moisturizer Flop

Good morning ladies! Today I want to talk about something that has been giving me quite a bit of grief these past few weeks.

I’m always pretty careful about what I buy when it comes to makeup. I am constantly looking to expand my collection; but, at the same time, I am usually pretty conscious of what I buy. I like to look at reviews, read blog posts and watch youtube videos… just get a sense of if I will like the product before I decide to purchase it. With that being said, I rarely get a product that just doesn’t work for me at all… Until this month. I’ve been experimenting with the NYX Tinted Moisturizer for the past few weeks and I just can’t seem to make it work.

Now, in general, I absolutely love tinted moisturizers. They’re so light with just the necessary amount of coverage – perfect for warm summer days. I’ve found that most of them work for almost any skin color, so it isn’t as hard for me to match as foundation. I’ve tried several brands and at least somewhat liked every single one of them… Except for my newest addition.

The good news is, the tube was only $10. The bad news… That $10 product really does not work for my skin. When I swatch the moisturizer, it looks like a decent color – blends nicely and feels light. But, once I put it on my face, the product is so orange, it looks like the worst spray tan imaginable. Even with just a slight amount of product, it turns into a cakey mess. I have tried it with and without primers, mixed in with other tints, as well as combined with a regular face lotion. Nothing works.

Now this isn’t to say that it wouldn’t work with another skin tone. It really has a nice feel to it – good consistency and blending capability. But if you have cooler toned skin like me, I would advise against it.

If any of you have this product as well and have figured out a way to make it look presentable, please let me know! I would hate to walk away not liking it at all. Anyways, happy summertime makeup XXX

Moving Made Easy — 5 Essential Moving Day Hacks

For the past couple of months, I’ve been in the process of moving down to the beach for a summer internship, as well as packing for college. Although I know I can go home on the weekend if I forget or need anything, I’ve really been trying to make sure I have everything that I know I’ll want. Needless to say, this hasn’t exactly been fun. Moving is miserable. There’s all the packing and deciding what to take. Then there’s the unpacking and trying to organize. When you’re in the middle of it, you feel like you live in a giant mad house. And it’s soooo time consuming. But, I’d like to think I’ve come out of these past 14 days being a little bit better at moving than I originally was. So hopefully the tricks I’ve learned along the way will help out anyone getting ready to go through moving day.

Tip #1 Use all of your space. When you move, you take everything you need on an everyday basis, as well as everything you need on special occasions. This includes drawers and bags. Yes, you probably don’t pack a suitcase every morning before work. But you’re going to need it at some point, so just go ahead and fill that thing up with clothes/jewelry/books/whatever you want. It’ll save you so much space. The same goes for drawers. You know those plastic organizers that you never use but you’ll bring anyways? Go ahead and pack some things in them. Just make sure they aren’t too heavy, or picking them up will be a nightmare!

Tip #2 Label with colored tape. It’s a terrible feeling when that favorite picture frame or adorable mirror comes out of the box broken. No, you didn’t mean to be rough with it. But, to be honest, you probably forgot it was even in that box. Save yourself the heartache and just slap a piece of colored tape on top of the box. Red is for fragile, purple is for books, blue is for clothes. However you want to do it, just tape it up. You’ll get a reminder to be careful with certain items, as well as some colorful boxes!

Tip #3 Organize, organize, organize. I know, I know… It takes so much time to do this when you’re packing all of your belongings away. Sorting everything is no fun and it takes a bit of time. But, I promise it’ll be worth it as soon as you go to unpack. You won’t have to untangle necklaces or take spoons to the kitchen from the box in your bathroom. Everything will be where it is supposed to be!

Tip #4 Know what you’re going to need on moving day. When I was packing, the things I had the hardest time putting in a box were the things I use on an everyday basis. I didn’t want to put away that cute shirt or that tube of lipgloss… What if I wanted to use it in the morning? My best advice to beat this is to decide exactly what you’re going to need. I put out a shirt or two, some hairbands, a bit of makeup, etc and then packed the rest away. On moving day, once I had used what I needed of it, I just threw it all in a bag I had left out. That way I had the comfort of my favorite things without taking time to pack them up on the day I moved out.

Tip #5 Don’t stress. This one is probably the hardest to do. It’s definitely easier said than done… Trust me, I know. But you and everyone around you will be so much happier and more productive if you aren’t running around franticly. Yeah, I know you’re going to have a million things to do. But, people will be way more willing to help you if you’re calmly asking instead of yelling. So on moving day, remember to take a deep breath. It’s all going to get done, don’t worry.

Hope this helped anyone getting ready to move. Good luck packing xxx

Beach Day Life Hacks

We all love a good day at the beach. The sun, the sand, the sea — it’s honestly one of my favorite places in the world. A good day of tanning and swimming though can be easily ruined by things such a busted phones and awkward tan lines. Goodness knows I’ve had my fair share. So this summer let’s beat the beach blues with these life hacks.

#1 Try to avoid bringing unnecessary electronics to the beach. But for those must-haves you do bring, stick them in a sealable plastic bag. It’s an effective way to keep all of that sand and moisture out without spending a fortune on waterproof cases. Bonus: If you’re feeling music on the beach, check out some water proof/dust proof bluetooth speakers. I got mine about 2 years ago from Amazon for around $30 and it’s still in great condition.

#2 We’ve all had those terrible sunburns. You spend 10 minutes applying sunscreen only to realize you missed a spot and it’s now painfully red. There aren’t many ways to prevent this, but you can make the night after a bit better. Just buy some aloe and stick it in the refrigerator. Whenever you’re feeling that summer heat, pull it out and rub it in. You’ll have that instant cooling relief along with the aloe’s healing properties. Two for one? I think yes.

#3 A nice dinner after a long beach day is one of the best feelings ever, besides a warm shower. I don’t know about you, but I just feel so much better after I get rid of that sticky beach feeling. If I know I won’t be able to take that shower right after to wash off my sandy feet, I definitely try to plan ahead because I hate feeling icky whenever I go out somewhere. When it comes to this, makeup wipes and some light power foundation are my two best friends. Just wipe off all of that sweat and sunscreen with some wipes and even out out your skin tone with the powder. You’ll feel a million times better. Brownie points for anyone who wants to swipe on some quick mascara too.

#4 Get a cute hat. I prefer snapbacks (they give off that beachy surfer vibe), but if sun hats are your thing, go for it, girl! You know those instagram photos of blondes looking absolutely gorgeous after a day on the beach? Ever seen those perfect beach waves and sun kissed skin? Me too, and I can promise I look nothing like that after a few hours at the beach. Sure, my tan gets a little bit better. But my hair is a mess… the wind honestly blows it to insanity. If I somehow manage to get a brush through it, it will occasionally turn out decently. But if that brush fails or I don’t have time, my go-to is definitely a hat. Stylish and problem solving at the same time!

Hope these tips help make the beach even better for some of you. Shakas all around xxx
